- The great bowerbird is the largest of the bowerbird family and is 33 to 38 cm long and fawny grey in colour.
- Male Great Bowerbirds sometimes steal nest decorations, which are intended to attract mates, from their rivals and use these decorations in their own nests.
- The vegetation that fringes the river bank includes River Gums, freshwater mangroves, pandanus, lilac-crowned wren, reed warbler and the great bowerbird.
- The island is home to endangered flora such as " Brachychiton incanus " and a variety of birdlife such as rufous night heron, little eagle, brown falcon, whimbrel, tawny frogmouth, great bowerbird and rainbow bee-eater.
- Fauna found on the island include the golden bandicoot and many types of birds including the pied imperial pigeon, sulphur-crested cockatoo, brown honeyeater, white-gaped honeyeater, white-lined honeyeater, silver-crowned friarbird, mangrove golden whistler, leaden flycatcher, northern fantail, black-faced cuckoo-shrike, varied triller and the great bowerbird.
